Postdoctoral position under Asian Dynamics Initiative

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position under the Asian Dynamics Initiative at the University of Copenhagen. The position will be based at the Faculty of Humanities and is a 2-year appointment, but can be extended to 3 years, if the department in question agrees to finance one extra year. In that case, the employment will include teaching and completion of the teacher training programme (adjunktpædagogikum). Applicants are asked to contact the relevant department to settle the terms of employment prior to sending in the application. Expected date of appointment is 1 September 2011 or soon thereafter.

The Asian Dynamics Initiative (ADI) is a cross-faculty Asia focus at the University of Copenhagen. ADI aims at coordinating existing research and teaching on Asia as well as creating a common platform for interdisciplinary Asian studies.

Seven research fields have been identified as anchor points for cutting edge research and teaching between the Social Sciences and the Humanities. It is expected that the candidates have a research project that relates to at least one of the designated research fields of the ADI which are:

1. Knowledge in transit

2. Security at global and local levels

3. Borders, territorialisation and regionalization

4. Belonging, citizenship and identities

5. Local responses to global challenges

6. The economics of the Asian challenge

7. Political institutions and culture

The positions require a PhD degree or similar qualifications.

Qualification requirements

Emphasis will be placed on the following qualifications:

  • Research qualifications, which will be assessed in relation to the period of active research and the degree of originality and production
  • Scientific significance, academic breadth and depth, rigour, thoroughness and accuracy as well as academic relevance in relation to the advertisement for the position
  • Teaching qualifications
  • Administrative qualifications
  • Research management
  • Participation in networks - national and international

Appendix 3: Complete list of publications

Appendix 4: Research plan, including a short description of previous research and a plan for the coming years, that includes an account of involvement in organising research, establishment of research seminars, symposia and congresses etc.

Appendix 5: Documentation of teaching qualifications and research dissemination (organisation of classes, materials, provision of courses and other forms of teaching).

Appendix 6: Publications. Applicants may choose a maximum of three publications for assessment, of which at least two of the selected works must have been published within the five years immediately preceding the deadline for applications. Publication dates must be clearly marked on the publication list. The publications selected must be sent as attachments.

Only material in Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, English, German and French can be expected to be assessed.

All material will be maculated at the end of the appointment procedure.

Appointment procedure

After the application deadline, the Dean will set up an expert assessment committee to evaluate applicants specifically in relation to the advertised position. The applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each candidate will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment relating to his or her self before the appointment is finalised. Salary and employment terms

Remuneration and conditions as per the current agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the appropriate trade union.

The annual salary for the postdoc is approx DKK 380,000 plus 17.1% of the salary paid to a pension scheme.
