The Academy of Korea Studies

OUTLINE

Since its establishment in 1978, the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS) has made conspicuous achievements in the field of Korean studies by conducting in-depth research and education on Korean culture. Thus, it has grown as a prominent academic research institute that attracts attention both in and out of the country. The Academy’s research achievements are now widely used as a basis of a new momentum towards a promising future of the country as well as the academic world.

WHAT IS FUNDED

Master's or Doctoral Degree program / Research(non-degree) Program depends on program.

  • Tuition fees are fully waived for international students.
  • The Government Grant of KRW750,000 per month is provided for selected students.
  • Free Korean language courses are provided to assist international students with academic writing, presentations and discussions as well as communication skills.
  • On-campus dormitory accommodations are available at the rate of KRW477,400 per semester, double occupancy.
  • A 4:1 student-faculty ratio enables close one-to-one guidance of students by professors.
  • Various kinds of courses are available including major-specific courses, interdisciplinary courses, independent study with student's own topic and research plans, fieldwork and research credit.
  • Students may earn credits by publishing articles in accredited academic journals.

Korea Studies Promotion Service

OUTLINE

The Korean Studies Promotion Program is classified into the five programs of the Advanced Research Program for Korean Studies, Education Enhancement Program for Korean Studies, Korean Studies Infrastructure Development, and Korean Studies with People.
With the objective to globalize Korean Studies, the KSPS supports domestic and international Korean Studies Promotion Programs methodically in the long term, and endeavors to communicate with the public and the world through Korean Studies research, Korean Studies education platform reinforcement, Korean Studies popularization, etc.
In particular, we are promoting the research environment for the globalization of Korean Studies by supporting Korean Studies programs in stages and establishing Korean Studies education infrastructures like ‘Laboratory Program for Korean Studies’, ‘Core University Program for Korean Studies’, ‘Seed Program for Korean Studies’, ‘English Translation of 100 Korean Classics’, etc.
