Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, Dagfinn Høybråten, will talk about the Nordic way and Asia Wednesday June 17th 2015 from 09.30 – 12.30 exclusively in Asia House, Indiakaj 16.
This new program, Asia-Nordic Cross-Cultural Dialogue for Closer Relations, addresses the Asia environment in greater Copenhagen comprising the Asian diplomatic representatives, the leading Asian private enterprises as well as the Nordic diplomatic representatives and representatives from Danish/Nordic private enterprises operating in Asia.
The first and inaugurating event will be launched on June 17th 2015 from 09.30 to 12.30. We are proud to be able to present Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, Dagfinn Høybråten as our first speaker.
Asia and Europe are increasingly and in many ways becoming interconnected. Economic links are growing stronger and more important. Political links expand as well, as do academic cooperation and relations between people from all walks of life. Although the Nordic region with five small countries may not claim a leading position in East – West relations, we have in recent years experienced a growing positive interest from Asian partners, an interest reciprocated by our growing interests in establishing closer links with Asia.
What attracts many institutions and organizations in Asia to the Nordic region is the strong and long standing cooperation between the five independent countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. It is said, and we believe with some right, that this regional cooperation is the only one in the world that has almost total public support in all five countries.
NIAS – the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies at University of Copenhagen and Asia House have decided to offer a highly qualified program focusing on Nordic – Asia relations. Cultural understanding and cross-cultural insight is today a necessary currency without which international relations may face unexpected difficulties.
The director of NIAS will introduce the new program, and the SG will present his views on a Nordic way in a globalized world. The dialogue between the distinguished participants at this event is of utmost importance, and there will be ample time for this after the presentation.
