Tibet Seminar

NIAS is hosting a seminar with a delegation of Tibetan studies scholars from China on 25 November 2008. The objective of the seminar is to discuss how research on Tibet is undertaken in China.

The delegation members are:
• Zheng Dui, Director, the Religious Studies Institute of China Tibetology Research Center
• Xie Gangzheng, Deputy Director, Sichuan Tibetology Studies Institute
• Su Faxiang, Professor, the Central University for Nationalities
• Da Waciren, Deputy Director, Scientific Research Office of China Tibetology Research Institute
• Wu Leifen, Council Member, China International Culture Association
• Hua Xin, Interpreter, China Ministry og Foreign Affairs

The delegation will give an introduction to the history of and current trends in Tibetan Studies in China. Additionally, two specific topics will be covered: 1) the current research project of Director Zhen Dui 'Tibetan Buddhism adapt with contemporary society' and 2) his project on 'The system of combined religion and politics (chos srid zung 'brel)'.

Next, Jørgen Delman, Director of NIAS, will briefly introduce what NIAS has been doing with regard to Tibet. Then, Associate Professor in Tibetan Studies Jan-Ulrich Sobisch, University of Copenhagen, and Ph.D. candidate Trine Brox, NIAS, will present their research.

The seminar will be held at NIAS on 25.11.2008, 1-3 p.m.
