The clash of nationalisms in Northeast Asia
Roundtable event on the 2012 Diplomatic Dispute between China-Japan
Thursday, 20 September, 2-4 pm.
Frokoststuen/Lunch Room, 4.2.26
Diplomatic tensions between these two regional powers have important implications for the security and stability of East Asia. Will the events of 2012 lead to another all-time low between China and Japan? Are the two states destined for a protracted rivalry as China rises? Are both states hostage to an increasingly xenophobic nationalism that views each other with antipathy? This Roundtable, hosted by the Department of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen, will invite a number of experts on Asian international relations to explore the domestic and international contexts of the latest row between China and Japan.
Speakers
Shogo Suzuki, Department of Political Science, University of Copenhagen:
Reading the Tea Leaves of Sino-Japanese Relations: where will the bilateral relation go from now?
Karl Gustaffson, Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies, Lund University:

Björn Jerdén, The Swedish Institute of International Affairs:

The roundtable is followed by a reception.
