Surinder S. Jodhka is a Professor of Sociology at the School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. He is currently ICCR Visiting Professor at the Lund University, Sweden. His research interests include the dynamics of caste and community identities in contemporary India, rural/agrarian social change and social inequalities. He has published/edited seven books, which include Caste (OUP 2012); Village Society: Culture, Politics and Social Life in Rural India (ed. Orient Blackswan 2012); Community and Identities: Contemporary Discourses on Culture and Politics in India (ed. Sage 2001).
Anna Lindberg is currently the director of SASNET, the South Asian Studies Network at Lund University, a position she has held since 2007. She formerly taught history and gender studies at Lund University, and at the University of Pennsylvania and Penn State University in the US. In 2003 her dissertation, Experience and Identity: A Historical Account of Class, Caste, and Gender among the Cashew Workers of Kerala, 1930–2000, was awarded the prize for outstanding academic achievement by the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History, and Antiquities. It was published in 2005 by NIAS and the University of Hawaii Press under the title Modernization and Effeminization. Anna Lindberg specializes in contemporary Indian history. Her main concern is South Indian history and gender with an interdisciplinary approach. She has been affiliated with Centre for Development Studies in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, for several years.
