Guest lecture: Writing for Socialisme
How were writers and artists in Mao's China to know what they could and could not do to gain the approval of both the authorities and their audience in volatile political times? We will look at the first work by one young novelist writing in the 1970s, and the sources she drew on to create a picture of life in the Great Northern Wilderness.
The guest lecturer, Dr. Richard King, is Director of the Centre for Asia Pacific Initiatives at the University of Victoria, Canada.
