Encountering Asia: Past and Present Museum Practices

How has Asian material culture been collected and displayed historically? What characterizes current museum practices in the field? In which directions can museums focusing of Asian material go? These are the core questions raised at the ADI workshop "Encountering Asia - past and present museum practices".

The ADI workshop brings together anthropologists, area studies specialists and museum professionals working within the fields of Asian material culture and museum studies. In doing so, it presents various and at times contradicting approaches to the research, collecting and display of Asian material culture in Asia as well as in Europe.
