Guest Lecture by Penny van Esterik
"Hindsight, Oversight and Insight into Ban Chiang Neolithic Burial Pottery, northeast Thailand; a personal trajectory through interdisciplinary research in Southeast Asia"
guest lecture by Penny van Esterik, Professor, Department of Anthropology, York University.
Abstract
I will base the presentation on a recent paper that updates the research on the culture history of the area, but tell a personal tale of how my perspective on the material changed over the years. As more information came to light on the infant burials in mainland Southeast Asia, I found myself reexamining the material from a gender perspective, and later a food security perspective. This personal trajectory of subjective hindsight is probably familiar to other researchers in interdisciplinary regional studies.
After the lecture Associate Professor Cynthia Chou will chair the Q&A session.
All are welcome!
