Visualising Asian Modernity
The Global Rise of Contemporary East Asian Visual Arts
Two academic seminars and two In Situ Art Talks on Asian visual arts related to popular culture, global economy and social change
With the rise of the Asian economies, there has been a substantial recentering of global visual arts culture on Asia as a major producer of the world's images and visual culture. Visualising Asian Modernity is a series of seminar events that will examine the international impact of the contemporary Asian art world in relation to social change in East Asian societies. The aim is to create a forum for critical discussion on Asian visual art: how it is presented outside of Asia and how this field of visual arts is related to the broader development of popular culture and society.
Academic discussions and in situ art talks
In an innovative and ambitious collaboration between University of Copenhagen, Aarhus University and a number of other academic and art institutions, the seminar events will take place over two weekends in Copenhagen (March 28-29) and Aarhus (May 16-17).
The Saturday seminars will be devoted to academic discussions with distinguished invited international scholars and representatives of the Danish business community.
The Sunday seminars, meanwhile, will stage in situ art talks with gallerists, curators and critics, and will be hosted by the ARKEN Museum of Modern Art, and ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum respectively.
