Academic roundtable discussion with former Foreign Minister of the Republic of Indonesia H.E. Dr. Hassan Wirajuda

Foreign Minister of Indonesia (2001-2009) and member of the Indonesian Council of Presidential Advisors (2010-2014).

A career diplomat, he was Ambassador to Egypt (1997-1998) and Permanent Representative to the U.N. in Geneva (1998-2000) and Director General of Political Affairs at the Foreign Ministry.

Dr. Wirajuda earned a Doctor of Juridical Science in International Law from the University of Virginia School of Law (1988), a Master of Law (LL.M) from Harvard University School of Law (1985) and a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy (MALD) from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (1984).

A high-level expert and acknowledged public intellectual on the South China Sea dispute, he has voiced his views widely in international media and academia.

Where is the South China Sea Dispute headed to between China and various Southeast Asian nations, especially the Philippines and Vietnam, after the The Hague International Tribunal’s rejection of Chinese exclusive claims to sovereignty in the disputed waters? This academic round-table discussion will deliver perspectives from various angles provided by former Foreign Minister of the Republic of Indonesia H.E. Dr. Hassan Wirajuda as well as three academics of a broad range of disciplines from the University of Copenhagen and the Danish Institute of International Studies.
