Policing Southeast Asia: Challenges for Field Researchers

Policing is often a controversial business, but faces particular challenges in countries where human rights are weakly institutionalized. How can researchers conduct fieldwork on policing in contentious Southeast Asian contexts, such as Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s ongoing war on drugs? This event features researchers who have been studying how the police operates in Burma/Myanmar, the Philippines and Thailand, and facilitates discussion about the challenges they have faced.
