Borderland:
Critical approaches to field research in the Global South

New IARU Global Summer Programme

University of California, Berkeley and University of Copenhagen, in collaboration with Chiang Mai University, present a new critical field research course on global transformations as part of IARU's Global Summer Programmes.

The course is offered to all advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students and will take place in Chiang Mai, Thailand for four weeks during the summer 2018. The course is a great opportunity for students to immerse themselves in local communities and critically engage with local issues and organizations - as well as deepening skills and understandings of research methods.

Themes that will be addressed in the course include:

  • Borders and boundaries
  • Mobilities and immobilities
  • Environment and natural ressource management
  • Human in/security and social justice

The course will take place June 20 - July 18 2018, with fieldwork from June 25 - July 18

The Global Summer Program (GSP) is an exciting learning experience that connects students from IARU universities with their peers from around the world.GSP participants have the unique opportunity to come together to explore and discuss critical issues in a global perspective that require multidisciplinary approaches.
