Postdoctoral position at NIAS

Nordic Institute of Asian Studies, University of Copenhagen

Nordic Institute of Asian Studies at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a postdoctoral position. The position is a 1½-year appointment. The appointment may be extended subject to sufficient funds. Expected date of appointment is 1 May 2011 or soon thereafter.

Qualifications

Postdoctoral positions require qualifications at PhD level.

The postdoctoral position is a fixed-term academic position. Normally, the position will be heavily weighted in favour of research. In addition, a certain amount of teaching may also be required. Other duties may, furthermore, have to be performed to a limited extent. The University determines the exact ration between the various responsibilities. The ratio may vary over time.

The position will not contribute to a broadening of pedagogical competencies. Therefore, the postdoctoral position may not alone qualify for appointment as associate professor/senior researcher.

The prerequisite qualifications are in agreement with the stipulations of the Danish Circular on Job structure for Institutions of Higher Education under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Job description

Successful candidates will have a well established research network in one of the Nordic countries and a strong Asia research profile.

With social science research at our core, we, at NIAS, work interdisciplinary and comparatively. We work closely with partners in Asia and have a clear focus on developing and strengthening cooperation and connections to the Nordic research community.

The research conducted at NIAS and the information disseminated in the upcoming period fall under the umbrella of our research programme Mapping the Mental Landscapes of Eurasia. Current Responses to Changing Environmental and Socio-Cultural Conditions. It is our vision that this research programme creates a focal point for the Institute and promotes our internal and external partnerships. Candidates working with projects and who have a network that would both suit and strengthen this programme are encouraged to submit an application.

At NIAS we strive for a balanced combination of a sharp academic focus and a healthy working environment. It is therefore a prerequisite that the successful candidate endeavours to have a close working relationship with the colleagues at the Institute.

The successful candidate will be employed in a temporary full-time position for 1½ years. Remuneration is in accordance with the guidelines stipulated by University of Copenhagen. Any extension of the contract will depend on the financial situation of the Institute at the end of the 1½-year employment period. It is a central task of all staff at NIAS to seek external funding in support of the Institute's activities.

Salary and conditions of employment

Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

Currently, the monthly salary for postdoctoral researchers begins around EUR 4,800 including supplement and pension. Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reduction, if they have not lived in Denmark within the last 3 years.
