Media Food In and Out of Contemporary Asian Food Cultures
Panel in the 7th Annual International ADI Conference on Food, Feeding and Eating In and Out of Asia
Convenors: Anders Riel Müller and Jonatan Leer
Like everywhere in the world, media plays an increasingly important role for contemporary Asian foodways. Furthermore, food and media are combined in new ways and in new medias across the Asian nations.
In this panel, we want to consider the concept of media food. We define this concept as all media formats, cross-media contents, all media genres dealing with food in digital, electronic and print media and the uses of them in everyday life and in the political life. Through theoretical and empirical discussions of the meanings and the practices of media food, we want to analyze and debate how media is shaping the politics, the practices, and the identities of contemporary Asian food cultures and how media food circulates images of Asian cultures across the globe.
We invite papers within all domains and fields touching upon the relationship between media and food practices in and out of Asia.
