Monastic Warriors as Villains: Constructing Cultural Paradigms in Early Modern and Modern Japan

Mikael Adolphson will pay a visit to the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies to give a guest lecture entitled 'Monastic Warriors as Villains: Constructing Cultural Paradigms in Early Modern and Modern Japan'.

Mikael Adolphson is an associate professor in the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Alberta. He is author of 'The Teeth and Claws of the Buddha: Monastic Warriors and Sōhei in Japanese History' (Hawaii, 2007) and co-editor of 'Heian Japan: Centers and Peripheries' (Hawaii, 2007).
