Aim
Separatist conflicts are the main challenge to peace and security both in Europe and Asia. Various options of autonomy have been debated in relation to almost all of these conflicts. If autonomy deals with grievances in separatist areas it can reduce motives for conflict. However, anything that offers mobilization opportunities for separatist organizations, including greater autonomous space for decentralized local political organization, could increase the probability of war. The one-day workshop will seek European and Asian perspectives and expertise to this classical dilemma related to the motives and mobilization of conflicts by scrutinizing Asian and European cases of separatist conflict.
The workshop is part of the ongoing series of workshops on peace and conflict on the platform of ASEM Education Hub for Peace and Conflict
(AEH PC, www.tnpcs.niasnetworks.net).
